HOW CAN A MAN BE SAVED?

This is also from my quiet time notes. Enjoy reading.

Q. How can a man be saved?
A. Man has no power to save himself. So God provided the way for man to escape eternal punishment in hell. This salvation is received by repentance from sin and through personal faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21). "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9,10).

Man then can be saved by making a decision to turn away from sin and its pleasures and by confessing faith in Jesus Christ. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). "For God so loved the world that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Q. Is salvation as simple as this?
A. God could have asked for a more difficult requirement but since He is interested in saving all men, He provided everything for man to be saved. All that man need to do is to repent from his sins and turn to God by simple faith in Christ. Therefore salvation is by God’s grace alone. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2: 8,9). Salvation is God’s gift. "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Salvation is according to God’s mercy. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, that being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3:5-7). The Bible emphasized that it is by God's grace alone. Salvation is never a collaboration between God and man. It is God's work through and through. And this gift of salvation is given to any man who trusts in Jesus Christ.

Q. What does "trusting in Jesus Christ" mean?
A. It is believing that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the full payment for our sins, and that His resurrection from the grave after three days secured salvation for those who placed their faith on Him. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross has satisfied God because Jesus lived a holy life and that His righteousness (because He is God) has reached God's standard. "Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus; Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God" (Romans 3:24,25).

His resurrection is our assurance that He is able to save us from the sting of death (I Corinthians 15: 13-26, 54-57). "But Jesus, because he continueth forever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them" (Hebrews 7: 24,25).

The last element of trusting in Christ is giving Him lordship in our lives. "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand" (John 10: 27, 28). “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your hearts that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are jsutified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10: 9,10). This means any decision we make, any thought, any action, desires, habits, and pursuits must be subject to His approval for He is Lord. Is there any habit which displeases Him? Is there any thought that is not giving glory to His holy name? Is there any action that is not in accordance with His Word? Is there any pursuit which is not focused on Him? Is there any desire which dislodges Christ from the lofty throne which He rightfully deserves? Is there any dream that will not give honor to Christ? If He is Lord then He must be the Master of every aspect of our lives.

Q. Is there any other way by which man can be saved apart from Jesus Christ?
A. Apart from Jesus Christ, it is not possible for any man to be saved "for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (I Timothy 2:5). Without Christ, man is hopeless. Man-made religion cannot bring man closer to God. The fact is, God hates man-made religions (Romans 1:21-23, 25). So apart from Christ, man is going to hell. "For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s only begotten Son” (John 3:18). “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1: 12).
